UK National Lottery contributes To Good Causes
The UK National Lottery which is currently run by Camelot, is apparently the most efficiently run lottery, cost-wise, in all of Europe. In addition to that the UK National Lottery and operator Camelot are deeply committed to maximizing returns to the Good Causes Fund, having already generated over £23 billion for the fund which supports a wide variety of charities and causes in the United Kingdom.
Broadcaster Jackie Brambles (National Lottery Awards supporter) says, “Each year The National Lottery Awards recognize the incredible impact that Lottery-funded projects have on people and communities across the UK. Lottery players raise £25 million every week for the Good Causes fund and later on this year we’ll be marking 15 years since the UK Lottery began – celebrating the huge difference that Lottery funding has made to people all over the UK.”
The contribution of the National Lottery players is enabling high level support for the 1400+ UK Athletes as they prepare for London 2012 Olympics. It has also contributed funds to help land over 425 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The National Lottery will be contributing almost £2.2 billion towards London Olympics 2012, part of which (£750 million) is expected from specially designated lottery games.
Winners of the National Lottery Awards 2009 were declared recently, the search here being for UK’s favorite Lottery-funded project.
A live, star-studded Awards Ceremony on telecast on BBC1 saw the winners and runners-being announced (5th September) by presenter by Lisa Snowdon and John Sergeant. Special guests included actress Fay Ripley, Lottery-funded diving sensation Tom Daley. Sefton Performing Arts and Creative Education Centre won it for Best Arts Project. Other winners are - Tower Hamlets Summer University (Best Education Project), RSPB Dearne Valley - Old Moor Nature Reserve (Best Environment Project), The Jennifer Trust's Spinal Muscular Atrophy Outreach Service (Best Health Project), Restoration of Stourport-on-Severn Canal Basins (Best Heritage Project), Community Sports Pavilion (Best Sports Project) and Harbour Place Day Centre (Best Voluntary/Charity Project).
