New Jersey Legislates Online Gambling Bill

The state of New Jersey has voted to pass a historic bill . It is the first US state to pass an online gambling bill that will now allow Atlantic City Casinos to offer online versions of their Casinos to residents of the state.

Bill S490 was apparently approved by a 34-2 margin in the New Jersey Senate and in the Assembly by a 63-11-3 vote. This is a historic vote simply due to the content of the bill.

A number of statements came out congratulating the legislators of New Jersey and this appears to be the first crack in the wall that online gambling has been waiting for. This will mean the creation of jobs and revenue in the New Jersey area as online gambling companies are top heavy on technology and generally employ skilled resources.

The debate continues though in other states and European gambling companies will be watching this space with interest. Will the New Jersey online gambling sites allow people from outside of the USA to play at these online casinos must be the one question foremost in the mind of foreign gambling companies? From the looks of it, it seems that only players from within the boundaries of the state will be allowed to play at first.

Some of the funds created will be used to assist the New Jersey Racing Commission although it is still unclear as to how funds will be distributed. These are certainly interesting times within the gambling world in the USA.
