William Hill aquire US Sportsbook operation

William Hill Plc has taken its first steps into the regulated US Sports betting market. It is at present one of the biggest sports betting operation in the United Kingdom and has revealed its intention to expand into the US market by making this move.

William Hill has agreed to purchase the land based sports betting operators American Wagering Incorporated and Club Cal Neva Satellite Race and Sports book Division. The price for purchasing both of these operations and establishing a presence in the USA is a mere $39 million pounds according to reports. Both of the Sports books that have been purchased are based in Nevada, the home state of Las Vegas. Before the acquisition can go through though, it appears that some regulatory requirements need to be met. Both its business and members of senior management are required to be licensed by the Nevada Gaming commission.

The purchase of the Sports books is being funded by cash reserves and according to William Hill the transaction should be fully completed within 2012. William Hill have in recent times been in the news for a number of reasons. It lost a legal battle with 32 Red re the use of the term 32 on one of its casinos. It also took out an injunction re its agreement with Playtech in regards to the William Hill Online side of its business. It is therefore good to see it the news for some positive reasons rather than the above. Online Casino players in the United States will not be able to access any of the online services that the company offers due to current legislation.
