Why Blog About Keno?

People often ask me why I chose to make my blog about Keno. I mean, sure, I play Keno, but I also play poker, blackjack, and craps. In fact, Texas Hold'em is really my drug of choice. I play at least a few hands of Texas Hold'em just about every day. Not only that, but I'm really not much of a gambler at all. I have a strict monthly budget of just $100 to gamble with. Usually, I can make that go pretty far, though. I even come out ahead sometimes. I even have this rule that any money that's left over in the gambling fund at the end of the month goes into savings.

But none of this explains why I decided to focus on Keno. Surely, it would be easier to find what to say about Texas Hold'em or blackjack. Heck, I could probably even talk more at length about craps, but I chose not to. I chose to focus on Keno because I feel like Keno is basically ignored as a game. I feel like a lot of people, even veteran gamblers, don't even know that the game of Keno exists.

So I decided to focus on Keno to bring one of my favorite pastimes out there to the world. Everyone knows about Texas Hold'em. Most of my friends have watched at least some of the WSOP. Everyone knows that there's a dice game where you blow on the dice and scream "baby needs a new pair of shoes" although why a baby who can't even walk would need a pair of shoes is far beyond my cognitive abilities to grasp. I don't know about most people, but I played blackjack on my graphing calculator in high school. I couldn't actually understand the point of it since the calculator wasn't sufficiently complex to have a dealer hand to compare to.

Keno, on the other hand, was a haphazard discovery. I walked into a room in the back of a casino, wondering if it was bingo, and there it was. I must have watched for over an hour before I asked someone to explain the game to me. (Yes, I'm pretty shy). I stood there uncomfortably, wondering what this game was, how to play, and lots more. Finally, I bought my first Keno ticket. I chose ten numbers, and six hit. It wasn't a big win, but it was exciting enough for me. I was hooked!

Since then, I've done a lot of research on Keno and Keno odds. I've lost many games, and I've never hit more than seven ever, but I enjoy the game. I feel like there's a certain beauty to a number hitting when you were sure it would. I enjoy Keno a lot. Sure, it's not as cerebral as poker or blackjack, but it's more exciting even than craps. For me, Keno is the best adrenaline rush there is, except maybe skydiving, but more about that next time.
