Scottish couple claim 161M EuroMillions Fortune
Details of Europe’s biggest ever lottery winners were revealed today by Camelot in a press conference. Scottish couple Colin Weir, 64, and his wife Chris, 55 won the EuroMillions jackpot of £161 million on Tuesday which now makes them the 430th richest people just behind the Beckhams.
The couple, who are from Largs in Ayrshire claimed their prize yesterday and spoke to the press about their amazing win. Mr. Wier, a retired television cameraman and studio producer and his wife, a psychiatric nurse said that the life changing win leaves them 'tickled pink' and they plan to travel the world.
Mrs Weir said, “We have both always wanted to see the Great Wall of China and Colin would love to stand at the foot of Ayers Rock in Australia. We also love art galleries so this gives us the chance to visit those in Paris and in Russia. These are all things we thought we would never see.”
Mr. Weir added, “"All our lives we have lived within our means and been comfortable. We appreciated that this money brings about a whole new life for us and our family. We now have so many opportunities to explore but we don't want to rush it. For us it will be a gradual change with choices to be made."
UK lottery players have had it lucky in recent years and until Tuesday’s win, the largest ever EuroMillions lottery was claimed by an anonymous player who had a win of £113 in October 2010.
On 12th February, Nigel Page and Justine Laycock won £56 million with the EuroMillions lottery while Les Scadding from South Wales shared a win of £91 million with a syndicate of IT workers a few months before that.
Will that streak of luck continue for UK players? Find out tonight with the EuroMillions lottery which has been reset at £13 million.
